I made an iOS Shortcut that automatically opens different apps and plays different content in my car depending on when and where I am when my phone connects wirelessly to CarPlay. I have been using it for more than two years now and it works great. If you don’t use wireless CarPlay, it will also work if you set it to trigger when your phone connects to your car’s Bluetooth.

Monday-Friday between 7am and 10.59am:

When I am leaving from home (typically with the kids in the car) it will play a “New music mix” playlist.

After I drop off the kids at kindergarten, it will play the latest news podcast while I’m on my way to work.

Monday-Friday after 10.59am:

When I leave the office, it will play my favorite podcast SmartLess

Saturday-Sunday:

It automatically opens Google Maps
