My first 3D print – an iPhone dock for my car

My first experience with 3D printing was in 2017 when I couldn’t find an iPhone dock for my Passat. I couldn’t find the right one anywhere, and then I discovered that someone had created a 3D model that could be printed via Shapeways. I ordered it as an SLS print, and I think it cost around 200 kroner at the time (this was before wireless CarPlay dongles were nice and cheap). I was so impressed by the quality, and the design worked perfectly—as you can see below.

Years later, I finally got my first 3D printer and designed an e-tron MagSafe charging dock for my current car. You can view and download the model here: https://runesblog.com/2026/01/01/designing-a-magsafe-charge-station-for-my-audi-e-tron/
